1. JESUS’ FOCUS WAS HIS DEATH ON THE CROSS
John 1:29 The next day John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Mat 16:21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”
2. OUR PREACHING IS ABOUT CHRIST CRUCIFIED
1Co 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1Co 1:23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
1Co 2:2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
3. THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS: RECONCILIATION BETWEEN MAN AND GOD – THE TIME OF GRACE
Col 1:20 Through Jesus, God has reconciled to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.
Eph 1:7 In Jesus we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
4. THE CROSS FINISHED ALL LAW AND OTHER SACRIFICES
Mat 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Gal 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree”. (from Deut 21:23)
Joh 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
5. WE BOAST OF THE CROSS, NOT OF OUR WORKS
Eph 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
Gal 6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
6. THE CROSS HAS MADE US RIGHTEOUS AND DEFEATED SATAN
Col 2:13 ….. God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the law, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
Rom 5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
Intimacy with GodIN THE BEGINNING GOD - CREATOR, WORD, SPIRIT (Gen 1:1) In the beginning God… The Spirit hovered. The Word was spoken. Life came into being. ‘Eloheem’ means gods and is specifically used in the plural. God is one (Mark 12:29). God is love (1John 4:8)....
